A Quick, Clean Kitchen: The Plan

Written by

How long does it take you to clean the kitchen? Ten minutes? Thirty? One blogger has turned kitchen cleaning into a science. At iDream of Clean, 5 minutes is all it takes to get a kitchen clean. The “secret” is simple: do similar things together and plan ahead. It's a maid service worthy strategy!

Do Similar Things Together

For instance, you might:

  • Collect & wash the dishes.

  • Collect and throw away all the trash.

  • Put away everything that goes in the refrigerator.

  • Put away everything that goes in the cabinets.

  • Wipe down all the surfaces.

Rather than starting to wash all the dishes and being sidetracked by dirt on the counter or trash on the floor, focus on one of these tasks at a time.

Focus is the key to getting through things efficiently. Pick a task and stick with it until you've seen it through to the end.

Planning Ahead

The other suggestion is to plan ahead. Before you start, figure out which order of tasks is going to work out best for you. We suggest doing the hardest thing first—if dishes are piled up, make that your first priority. If there's trash scattered around the room, jump right in.

By getting the hardest thing out of the way first, you are naturally more efficient: you start on the biggest task while you have the most energy and motivation. If you save the hardest things for the end, you won't want to do them anymore.
